KANE STREET KIDS
In September 2005, Kane Street Synagogue opened the first Conservative
Jewish Early Childhood Center serving the Downtown Brooklyn area. The
Kane Street Early Childhood and Family Center is a first-class Jewish childcare
facility housed in the newly constructed Goldman Educational Center.
The Kane Street Early Childhood and Family Center provides a safe, stimulating and
spiritually nourishing Jewish environment for the young children of Brownstone Brooklyn and their families. We believe that young children benefit from nurturing traditions and informed parenting. We seek to provide teachers who share their love of learning and of Jewish traditions.
Our first Kane Street Kids Class for 2-year olds began September 2005
In September 2006, we added a class for Three-year olds, and in September 2007 Kane Street Kids added a pre-kindergarten class for four-year olds.

About our Director
Joyce Heller, the director of the Kane Street Early Childhood and Family Center, comes to Kane Street with a solid background in early childhood education and almost eighteen years of experience in teaching. She taught for eight years at the Sephardic Community Center Early Childhood Program and served as education director at Annie G. Newsome Head Start in Manhattan. Prior to that she taught and tutored for eight years at the Writing Center of LaGuardia Community College in Queens. She is permanently certified and has her Masters in education from Hunter College.
In Ms.Heller’s classrooms, children develop socially, cognitively, and physically in a warm nurturing environment. The children explore and learn through activities such as art, language and literacy, music, movement, science and math exploration, and Jewish life and learning. Most important, the children are listened to within a secure, structured environment. No child is pushed; all children are encouraged.
As a teacher and as a director, Ms. Heller considers communication with the parents essential to building a classroom where the individual and the community blossom.
