The Goldman Center
The Sol & Lillian Goldman Educational Center is the beautiful new home to the Kane Street Hebrew School and our adult and family education courses. The Center features modernized, soundproofed classrooms, an enlarged chapel, a separate library, new offices for our rabbi and staff, a roof terrace, and a new social hall with kitchen. The building is completely accessible to the mobility impaired. The Goldman Center was dedicated on The highlight of the interior is a large social hall opening onto an atrium graced by the stained glass windows of the adjoining sanctuary. The most noteworthy change visible from the street is the “new” sparkling granite facade, discovered under layers of brown paint and completely restored.
Our member Dr. Amy Goldman, daughter of the late Sol and Lillian Goldman, re-set the first stone of the new building at the groundbreaking ceremony on November 18, 2003, and the dedication ceremony was held less than a year later, on October 24, 2004. We are grateful to Lillian Goldman, of blessed memory, who made the lead donation for this project. Articles about the groundbreaking appeared in the New York Daily News and the Brooklyn Heights Courier. In June 2004, our safe of historical artifacts was opened, providing a rare glimpse into the daily life of a synagogue in the mid-19th century. Articles about the opening of our safe appeared in the New York Jewish Week and The New York Times. Our Sanctuary and Goldman Center buildings are lovely venues for celebrations from baby namings to retirement parties. Please contact the office for information about space availability.
